This year I’ve been fortunate enough to pick up a great new client, SelectHealth which is a local healthcare company here in Utah. At the beginning of the summer I met with their brand and marketing director. I had always felt my work would be a good fit for them and I knew they did a lot of marketing. The meeting went really well and I was hopeful that I would have the opportunity to create some work for them but I wasn’t sure what was going to happen with it however.

A few weeks later, I was super exited when the advertising agency they use, The Summit Group, called me in for a portfolio review. There I had the opportunity to meet the creative team and discuss some upcoming projects. The meeting was successful and lead to having me shoot a little campaign SelectHealth was doing to promote the new GreenBikes around downtown Salt Lake Lake. They are a main sponsor and wanted to some new images to promote the program. The shoot went really well and I think we came away with some nice stuff. I knew they were testing me out on this shoot and wanted to make sure they enjoyed the entire process of working with me from the first call to image delivery and everything in between. Great work will get your foot in the door with clients but being great to work with will keep them calling. Below are some of my favorites from the shoot.

Special Thanks to: James Rabdau (Creative Director), Mike from SelectHealth, Jarett and Nicole also from Summit Group, and Ben from GreenBike.

Lolo Fit

I was recently hired by a company called Lolofit to create some new branding and marketing images for them. They create great IPhone and IPad fitness apps. I was really exited about this shoot and am even happier with how things turned out. We shot these at a gym in Logan, Utah. It was a long day with 5 models and a pretty hefty shot list so we had to work fast. There wasn’t any good light in the gym so we had to create it using three strobes a couple of umbrellas and a soft box. I decided to go with a little more dramatic lighting setup because I felt like it suited the look and feel that the client liked and matched the subject matter nicely. The client was very happy and I got some great new images for my portfolio. Here are a few of my favorite shots along with a few behind scenes shots thanks to my assistant Cory Steffen.

Outside Magazine and Hyundai Spread

In January I was commissioned by Outside Magazine to shoot for a couple of days in Park City, Utah. The shoot was for an advertorial that they were producing in conjunction with Hyundai cars showcasing the new Santa Fe SUV. The idea was to get a family from LA to come out to Utah put them up in a nice hotel at the Canyons Resort, give them a new Santa Fe to drive around, shoot them doing a bunch of fun activities and call it the Epic Adventure. It just so happened that it was one of the coldest and snowiest weekends of the year. I think the high temperature on Friday was a balmy -2 degrees and on Sunday when we were snowboarding and zip lining it was -10. Luckily, the snow stayed in the Salt Lake Valley for the most part and we had some nice light to work with over the weekend. The most challenging to shoot was the zip line shot. I had to shoot it while controlling my own zip line but it was pretty rad being 250 feet in the air. It was a fun shoot. I was so exited to shoot this. I’ve been trying to shoot for Outside Magazine for a long time and it was great to finally get the call. I’ve attached the the spread that is running now in the March issue of Outside. There were lots of good images that weren’t used in the magazine that I included also. Thanks to Jen and Sara at Outside for the opportunity to work together.

New Billboard for Workers Compensation Fund of Utah

In January I was hired by Workers Compensation Fund of Utah to shoot their ’12 annual report images and their ’13 advertising images. They are one of my favorite clients. We always have a great time working together and get to shoot in some pretty interesting work environments. We also work really well together. It is so nice to have a client that really trusts you and your vision and then is willing to invest in it. They are a great bunch. I’m so grateful to be able to work with them. One of the billboards we shot is out now and running along the Wasatch Front. Here is the first image, there will be more coming throughout the year. I’ll post things as they run! Thanks for checking things out and to WCF!
